The Donald Cooper Corporation Newsletter
Volume 1, Issue 2 - August 19, 2002
Greetings,
Welcome to our 2nd monthly newsletter!! The response to our inaugural issue last month was so positive that we've decided to jazz it up a little with some help from the very talented motion4.com. If you like the look of this issue, Jason Stoll will be delighted to help you with your online communication. Jason can be reached at jstoll@motion4.com or visit their website at www.motion4.com.
1) Follow-up on the famous restaurant that doesn't answer its phone!
In our last newsletter, I told you about my frustration in calling the famous French Laundry restaurant in the Napa Valley of California more than 20 times over a two month period to make dinner reservations for my wife's birthday...and every time I called the line was busy! There was no voice message asking me to leave my number, no email address...nothing! Just a busy signal, 23 times!
So, instead we went to Le Toque. They're #2, but they do answer their phone. I promised to report back to tell you how it was...and it was absolutely wonderful! Highly recommended.
Also, we took a day-long vineyard cycling tour with John Hildebrand of Napa Valley Bike Tours www.napaadventures.com. It was a fabulous experience with incredible scenery, visits to small, out-of-the-way vineyards that you'd never find on your own, personal attention and great company for the day. Also highly recommended.
2) The 7 Keys to Long-term Profitability.
Estimated read time is 1 minute, 15 seconds
While short-term profits in any business can be affected by many factors such as political strife in oil producing countries, economic slowdown, government legislation at home or abroad...or the weather, your long-term profitability will typically be a measure of your ability to master seven key factors. Here they are...
- Understanding three realities; your customers' realities, your company's realities and your industry's realities. "The beginning of wisdom is the recognition of reality."
- The ability to visualize an extraordinary future for all stakeholders (your Vision)...and specifically what it will take to get you there. (your Mission)
- Creating, delivering and communicating a compelling and sustainable value proposition for your target customers. And here's a tip, there are only three kinds of Value...Functional, Emotional and Financial Value.
- The discipline to plan, implement and react decisively.
- Communicating a set of values and standards that state clearly what you stand for and how you'll behave as a business.
- Developing a business culture that attracts, focuses and empowers the best available talent at every level of our organization. A culture that nurtures creativity while holding people accountable for their commitments.
- Achieving world-class operational efficiency in every part of your business.
How does your business rate in the mastery of each of these seven keys to long-term profitability?
3) Two powerful business tools are now available on our website...FREE!
When you listen to your staff, two wonderful things happen. First, you learn from them and, second, you honor them. And, of course, when you don't listen to your staff two things also happen...you don't learn from them...and you dishonor them.
We offer two powerful (and free) tools on our website that will help you listen to, and learn from, your staff. The link below requires Adobe Acrobat Reader which can be downloaded free here.
"The 7 Questions to Ask Your Staff That Could Change Your Business Forever!" and "How to Do a Skills Inventory of Your Staff!"
Both of these tools come with "how to" instructions and are formatted to be printed on your letterhead. If you have any questions about how to download or implement them, just call us at 416-252-3704.
4) It's great to be asked back!
We've just been booked to deliver the opening Keynote again this year at Profit Magazine's 3-Day Boot Camp for Canada's 50 fastest growing business startups! The topic they've selected is our...

your customers, your business and your life!
To quote Rick Spence, Editor of Profit Magazine, following our Boot Camp Keynote last year... "A compelling bottom-line business message...brilliantly delivered!"

Here's a "win-win" that may interest you!
A good friend (and a great speaker) Warren Evans has devoted much of the past year to creating a very special Foundation called Laura's Hope.
Last year, Warren's daughter, Laura, finally succumbed to Juvenile Huntington's Disease, for which there is not yet a cure. Just before Laura's passing it was discovered that his other daughter, Andrea also has the disease.
Laura's great hope, in her last days, was that a cure would be found to save her sister. Warren has been working hard to make this happen and a cure is imminent. And here's the bonus...a number of promising drugs that are approaching the clinical trial stage may also be effective in the treatment of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson's disease.
Many Speakers throughout the world are pitching in to help fund Laura's Hope, and through it to help the Huntington's Society...so here's the "win-win" that may interest you. I will deliver a $6800 presentation for a corporate or Association client but will charge only $5000 (that's the "win" for you) and then give the $5000 to Laura's Hope (that's the "win" for Andrea).
In addition to the $5000 speaking fee, you will also pay for any normal travel costs, which you would pay for in any case.
If this offer is of interest, please contact us at 416-252-3704. We're offering two of these "deals" only.
Attention Meeting Planners...This could be a valuable resource:
An automotive industry client for whom I'm speaking in the Laurentians this week sent out the most impactful pre-conference Info Package that I've ever seen.
The container was a perforated metal cylinder that fit perfectly with the company and their industry. Their Meeting Planner told me that for such great packaging she uses LUV2PAK (www.progresspackaging.com). She says their selection is huge, their prices are great and they're easy to do business with!
Kindest regards,
